How to order a monogram
A monogram is only right when the letters are in the right order. Here's the short version of monogram etiquette, plus how to choose a font and thread color that suits the piece.
Initial order
For one person
A classic three-letter monogram places the last-name initial in the center, larger than the two flanking it: first name on the left, middle name on the right. A block monogram instead reads straight across as first, middle, last.
For a couple
Use the shared last-name initial in the center, with the two first-name initials on either side — traditionally alphabetical, or with the partner taking the surname first.
Choosing a font
Script and Interlocking read as formal and suit wedding and hostess gifts. Block and Diamond are crisp and modern, ideal for totes, pouches and kitchen linens. Vine sits between the two and looks lovely on tea towels and napkins.
Picking a thread color
Navy and black give the highest contrast on pale fabrics. Powder blue and sage feel softer and tonal; ivory creates a subtle, tone-on-tone monogram. You can preview each combination on any product page before you inquire.
